| The Heat |
| Museum of african art, 24 January
The exhibition "The Heat" is a photographic record of the meeting of cultures, marked by a wedding ceremony, fi rst in Belgium, followed by Burkina Faso. Katarina Radović’s photographs are outcome of the questioning of a marriage as a
phenomenon when private and personal on the one hand collide with the public, collective, ritual and symbolic in their extremes. The whole phenomenon of wedding is further compounded when two people and their social forms of "private" and "public" are coming from different cultures. Wedding, fi rst in Belgium, then in Burkina Faso, emerges from the idea of marking a symbolic meeting and "eternal" bonding of two people, while the process includes those who are ‘extensions’ of the two people to be married, their family and friends. They are requested to step toward the ‘other and different’ that they are not necessarily looking for.
The photographs are dominated naturally by couples - two people getting married, two cultures, two religions. The viewer is hard to resist the mental contrasting and binary opposition: man / woman, black skin / white skin, Islam / Christianity...
Katarina Radović photo exhibition - "The Heat" at the Museum of African Art, on the one hand seeks to highlight the inevitable social contrasting arising from the "meeting of cultures", but also the possibility of merging into a harmonious whole,
with a very personal encounter between two people. |

“The whole city” is one part in a series of exhibitions of German’s artistic photography.
It brings together examples of the subjective author photographs, that manages to merge the artistic interpretation with documentation.

Six art photographers - Zoltan Jokaj, Andreas Rost, Maria Sevce, Ulrich Vista, Tomo Yamaguchi and Eva Bertram – will present different perspectives of urban culture and urban life. Their common
theme is the question of the identity of the man and the urban area. In doing so, the artists have included various aspects - city, architecture, portrait, contemporary history and society - which turned to look inwards and outwards. Their
thoughts are focused on everyday situations. It is through their photographs that they recount their own story.

| Serbian Comics in Leipzig |
| The National Library of Serbia will present three exhibitions at the International Book Fair in Leipzig in 2011, where Serbia will be the guest of honour. The first exhibition displays comics which have been created in the last 15 years, where the stories take place in Serbia or Belgrade, or their protagonists are characters from Serbian history and culture. The second exhibition is a sort of analysis of the alternative comic scene during the 1990s in Serbia. The ‘Two Radoslavs, Two Times’ exhibition, created in 2004, represents two parallel stories which describe two eras of history in Serbia. All three exhibitions will be set up under the cupolas of Leipzig Fair in a hall entirely dedicated to comics. Serbia, as the guest of honour of the fair, is preparing a range of literary promotions, lectures, workshops, meetings of authors with readers and other programmes which will present contemporary Serbian culture and Serbian heritage to fair attendees.

| The Man who Killed Tesla |
| The alternative historical novel by Goran Skrobonja ‘The Man who Killed Tesla’ was presented in the Museum of Nikola Tesla in Belgrade on August 6th. Parts of the presentation included experiments with remote controlling, transformers and induction engines.
Visitors to the promotion participated in these experiments, which signified the significance of Tesla’s inventions for modern civilisation. Footage of Belgrade from the 1920’s - the period when the novel ‘The Man who Killed Tesla’ is set - was shown in the background.
Petar Arbutina, the editor at ‘Laguna’ publishing house, said that Skrobonja had not only created a novel of alternative history, but also conjured up an ‘authentic history which did not happen to us (to Serbia)’, that he has created a ‘new authenticity’ based on literary lies which is ‘bound to be believed ’ by the reader. Arbutina deemed that Skrobonja had ‘returned fiction to literature’.
Skrobonja, who also works with translations and publishing, wrote the novels ‘Brood’ and ‘Korota, Novel by Soldiers’, as well as numerous stories summarised in three author’s collections - the last one ‘Silent Cities’ was also published by ‘Laguna’. |
